Academy Convenes Meeting with Jamaican Dignitaries to Discuss Human Trafficking in the Caribbean

On November 14, 2018, The John J. Brunetti Human Trafficking Academy hosted international dignitaries, Mr. Carl Berry, Head of Counterterrorism and Organized Crime Investigations of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and Ms. Shamere McKenzie, Jamaica’s Anti-Human Trafficking Ambassador, CEO of Sun Gate Foundation, and trafficking survivor.  The meeting was convened to discuss potential means of cooperation with the Caribbean States.

During the meeting, various aspects of human trafficking were discussed including combatting trafficking across borders, common trafficking schemes in Jamaica, successful prosecution of traffickers, orders of restitution, the impact of culture on the development of policies, preventative measures to educate and protect children, and ways to ensure survivors of human trafficking thrive.  As part of their visit, Mr. Berry and Ms. McKenzie also spoke with Jamaican students at Student Government Association’s International Food and Music Festival.
