Internet Safety for Strong Girls

May 7, 2020 | 3:00 pm

During COVID-19, children are spending increased time online, and Internet safety education has become more important than ever.  Monthly reports of suspected child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s Cyber Tipline has more than doubled from 983,734 in March 2019 to 2,027,520 in March 2020.  These alarming figures underscore the urgent need to educate and empower children to make safe choices online.

On May 7, the Academy’s Managing Director, Liza Smoker, will present an online, interactive session entitled Internet Safety for Strong Girls to students at Eneida Hartner Elementary School and Santa Clara Elementary School.  The Academy is pleased to provide this crucial education to Miami-Dade Public School students at the invitation of Strong Girls, an award-winning nonprofit whose mission is to teach critical coping skills to help manage the toxic stresses that interfere with academic and life success for girls in disadvantaged communities.
