Human Trafficking Highlighted at the City of Sunrise Family Resource Fair

By March 20, 2019Uncategorized

On March 16, the Academy participated in the City of Sunrise Family Resource Fair in an effort to raise awareness on human trafficking both international and domestically.  Liza E. Smoker, managing director of the Academy, and Tamara M. Dawes, a candidate in the J.S.D. Program in Intercultural Human Rights at St. Thomas Law School, spoke to parents, students, government officials, and law enforcement throughout the day on the issue.  One attendee shared with the Academy how she was trafficked in the City of Sunrise, and did not want to see this happen to others in the area.
